How to Use the Simple Compass
Some models have a rotating bezel or internal rotating indicator ring.
Using these in combination with the time display can allow you to easily determine a compass direction.
In the diagram, the compass directions are marked on the rotating bezel.
TIP
- To use the simple compass, the watch must be set to the time at the current location.
- The compass may not be available during certain seasons in low-latitude areas.
When in the Northern Hemisphere
- Hold the watch horizontal and point the hour hand toward the sun.
- The point midway between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock position is South.
As the time is 9 o'clock in the case shown in the diagram, turn the rotating bezel to align the bearing "S" with the 10:30 position on the dial. - At this time, the direction indicated by bearing "E" on the compass scale (7:30) is East.
When in the Southern Hemisphere
- Hold the watch horizontal and point the 12 o'clock position toward the sun.
- The point midway between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock position is North.
As the time is 9 o'clock in the case shown in the diagram, turn the rotating bezel to align the bearing "N" with the 10:30 position on the dial. - At this time, the direction indicated by bearing "W" on the compass scale (7:30) is West.
- "N" may appear as a different mark.
- The rotating bezel turns in both directions.
- When using the internal rotating indicator ring, turn the crown for the internal rotating indicator ring instead of turning the rotating bezel directly.
